Minimum server configuration

The installation of Open Bee™ Portal requires at least two separate machines:

  • A machine dedicated to Open Bee™ Portal and OpenSearch
  • A machine dedicated to Open Bee™ Scan OCS

Minimum configuration for each machine

  • Recent server processor, 4 cores / 4 vCPUs minimum
  • Minimum 8 GB of RAM
  • High-performance SSD or SAS SSD
  • 50 GB of available disk space (variable according to the volume of documents)
  • Recommendation: RAID configuration on a physical server
  • Windows local administrator account

Operating system

  • Microsoft® Windows Server 2019, 2022, or 2025 (64-bit), with the latest updates.

Compatible browser

The latest versions of:

  • Google Chrome
  • Chromium
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari

Cookies must be enabled in the browser.

Software prerequisites

The MySQL, Apache and RabbitMQ services are required for Open Bee™ Portal and must not be previously installed or used by any other application.

Server Network Configuration

Below is the list of ports that need to be opened on your local network.
From a remote machine:

  • Windows: 8000 (http) and/or 8443 (https)
  • ip-api.com (used to identify the user’s location when logging in)
  • All other ports can be closed

Internal ports on the machine (localhost) must be available:

  • ERlang and RabbitMQ: 4369, 5671, 5672
  • MySQL : 3306

How to size the server resources

Depending on the use of the solution, it may be necessary to use a server with more resources than the minimum configuration.

The table below will allow you to choose a suitable configuration depending on the number of pages that can be scanned. The “page” is used as a unit because it is much less subject to variation than a document.

(warning) This information is based on averages established from PDF documents scanned in medium quality (200dpi). They may therefore not be representative of the use that will be made of Open BeeTM Portal.

Number of pages scanned per yearDisk space needed for 10 years of storageRAM MinimalCPU Minimal
< 10,000100 GB8 GB4 cores
< 25 000250 GB8 GB4 cores
< 50,000500 GB16 GB8 cores
< 100,0001 TB16 GB8 cores

More than 100,000 pages per year, contact us.

Example calculation of the above table:

Average page weight: 400KB
10,000 pages of 400 KB over 10 years: (10,000 * 400 * 10 M) / 1024/1024 = 76.29 GB; Rounded up to 100GB to account for the space required by the operating system.
“M” being a multiplier coefficient equal to 2 that makes it possible to predict the size required for storing other data associated with the document (text content, metadata, thumbnails, etc.).

Configuration of client workstations

  • Google Chrome, Chromium, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Safari in their latest versions (Cookies enabled on the browser)
  • Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768, 1200 × 900 or more recommended
